  • Sham adoptions, marriages, etc. used to circumvent the visiting regulations shall be considered invalid and may result in termination of the visiting privileges.
  • An individual shall not generally be approved for more than one inmate’s visiting list.  Any exception shall be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Warden (as may be done in the case when a visitor is immediate family to more than one inmate).
  • Any staff member, contractor, volunteer or student who has terminated employment or services with the WDOC may not be considered for visits until one (1) year after termination of employment or services.
  • WDOC staff shall not be allowed to participate in the visiting process unless special approval is granted by the Warden or his/her designee in cases where an employee’s immediate family member is incarcerated.
  • Property, including mail, shall not be brought in to the inmate or sent out by the inmate through the visiting process.

Process to Become a Visitor

  • Each inmate will receive a visiting packet at intake.  The packet will include the rules and instructions for them to get visitors approved and added to their visiting list.  Applications must be sent out at the inmate's expense and completed applications must be received by the facility within 45 days of the inmate's intake date in order to be processed.
  • Upon receipt of the completed visiting applications the Administrative Corporal or Visiting Officer will run an NCIC check on the applicant and approve or deny the application or submit it to the Security Manager for further review and approval.
  • The inmate shall be notified of approval or denial and if approved the type of visit that will authorized (contact, non-contact, supervised etc.);
  • Inmates may delete and/or add to their visiting list every six (6) months from their arrival month.
  • The inmate shall be responsible to inform the potential visitors of the decision concerning their approval and to assure each approved visitor is aware of the visiting rules.  Copies of the visiting rules are available to the inmate.
  • Each inmate is allowed 10 adult visitors (18 or older) and children (less than 18 years of age) must be legally related to the inmate.

Visitor Behavioral Guidelines

These directives are not all inclusive. Contact facility of destination for more detailed information on visitation.

These are basic behavior guidelines as you interact with the inmate(s).  Please keep in mind the following:

We expect all visitors to demonstrate respect toward all staff, inmates and other inmate visitors.  Visiting is a privilege.  All inmates have earned the privilege of visiting and that privilege can be terminated by the Security Officer on duty for inappropriate behavior during visits.

Please respect others in the visiting area by maintaining appropriate conversations, physical contact, and appropriate attire.  General guidelines of social appropriateness that apply in any public place like a restaurant, airport, or similar gathering place also apply at the Visiting Rooms.  We expect all visitors to use common sense and make practical use of social graces.
