The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) is in the process of recruiting and testing to fill the more than 187 Correctional Officer positions necessary to run the 720-bed facility in Torrington and will test for some positions in Torrington

Testing in Torrington will be held on Saturday, July 11, Monday July 13, and Friday July 24, 2009. Testing starts at 9:00 a.m. and is conducted at Eastern Wyoming College in the Community Training CenterIt’s very important for interested applicants to test NOW due to the time needed to complete the testing process.

Applicants should allow for five hours for the on-site testing process. Tests include: integrity evaluation, report writing, counting, reading, judgment evaluation, fingerprinting, interview, and physical fitness. The physical fitness includes sit-ups and push ups completed in a minute plus a mile and a half run. These must meet the standards set per the individual’s age group. Some parts of the testing may be re-taken to get a passing score. Applicants may visit http://doc.state.wy.us/careers/physicalfitness.html to find the physical fitness standards.

The applicant must have the following at the testing session:

  1. Background questionnaire (available at the testing sight)
  2. Copies of their high school diploma, driver’s license, birth certificate, social security card, credit bureau report, DD214 (military) and any training records.
  3. Gym apparel to take the physical fitness evaluation.

Once an individual has passed the above mentioned tests, he/she then they will be sent for psychological and physical exams. These are paid for by the Department, with no cost to the applicant. The Department will also complete a background investigation during which staff talks with former employers, personal references and family members. This process takes approximately six weeks to complete.

Applicants may contact Bernice Madvig, Human Resource Manager at BMADVI@wdoc.state.wy.us or at 307.777.6322 for additional information.
