A presentation commemorating the approval of Wyoming Department of Corrections institutions in Wyoming Workers’ Safety’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) was held Tuesday, July 14th to recognize the institutions for their excellence in worker safety and health.
The SHARP recognition flags were presented by Gary W. Child, director of the Wyoming Department of Employment, to Wardens Eddie Wilson, Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP); Ken Keller, Wyoming Honor Farm (WHF); and Steven Hargett, Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp and Boot Camp (WHCC).
“WDOC belongs to a very elite group now and it is the first and only state agency to become party to this (SHARP),” said Child.
WDOC Director Lampert said the institutions have demonstrated to Wyoming and the department their hard work and he commended their efforts.
In evaluating the institutions’ safety and health management systems, the Wyoming Workers’ Safety review found excellence in safety and health management, employee training and involvement, and the application of appropriate resources into these areas. WSP was first approved for the SHARP on December 17, 2008; WHF on March 3, 2009; and WHCC on March 17, 2009.
SHARP sites experience fewer employee injuries and illnesses, reduced workers’ compensation costs, improved productivity, improved employee morale, and recognition in the community. In addition, sites’ safety and health management systems are further improved over time through the internal and external reviews that are part of SHARP’s ongoing participation requirements.
